Posted 15th October 2021 by Victoria LysonsIn our latest Case Study, Window Security Solutions (WSS) wanted to highlight an installation at one of the United Kingdom’s esteemed universities. Our ever reliable, Artur, took the call and progressed the enquiry through to a successful conclusion.
WSS was recommended to this organisation by the local constabulary reflecting our reputation and trustworthiness by police forces nationwide. We provide ethical and honest advice on the most suited security products, leaving clients in no doubt that they can put their faith in us to make the environment a safer place.
As with many further educational establishments, there was an evaluation of protection and security undertaken. An immediate improvement was felt to be the need to add to existing measures, and put in additional physical security to the offices. Clearly, the need for such was a prerequisite, but the briefing also included a desire for solutions that would be both aesthetically suitable and somewhat discrete in appearance. This design requirement was taken into account from the onset.
It is worth noting that on this occasion, the installation was not straight forward. We pride ourselves on bespoke solution to any setting. The Client was also considering electrical shutters, but the openings were not suitable. We also negotiated on best-value to afford a budget consistent with their aspirations. Compliance with Covid-19 protocol and risk assessments were followed throughout. The University decided to go ahead with eight insurance-approved retractable grilles. Retractable grilles are a classic security solution favoured by many because they provide a strong physical and visual deterrent against vandals and thieves when the building is unoccupied. However, when the building is in use, the grilles can fold away to ensure visually they are relatively attractive.
Confidentiality has been respected in compilation of this Case Study.
The Client commented on completion:
“The window grilles look good in an office/laboratory environment and don’t have an ‘industrial’ look. Our existing roller blinds are still useable as the grilles were installed in front of the blind mechanisms and take seconds to unlock. The install went smoothly, the installers provided clear user instructions.”

Why Are Schools Such Attractive Targets for Burglars?

Building design and facilities have become more modernised but most importantly, the integration of technology with education has become as prominent as ever.
It is a rare occurrence for schools to not be filled with top of the range computers such as Apple Macs and Chromebooks as well as tablets such as iPads and Samsung Galaxy’s – all which aid children’s education in 2019.
Most classrooms will now have at least one computer used by the teacher and then there’s the addition of ICT rooms and libraries, which on their own will contain dozens of expensive electronics.
The High Street Shop Being Vandalised by their own Customers

These attacks are often carried out during the night when the shop has closed and no one is around to witness the crime. (more…)
Exams Affected after Primary School is Forced to Close Following Burglary
Posted 13th May 2019 by Helen LeachA York Primary School has been forced to close its doors today following a break-in over the weekend.
Dringhouses Primary School had its windows smashed and offices ransacked during the break-in on 10th May. It is unknown as to what has been taken from the school at this time.
40 children at the school were supposed to sit their SATs exams today and have had to move to the local York High School to take their exams instea.d
Photos taken by the school displays the shocking extent of the damage caused with broken glass on the carpets, furniture broken and drawers ransacked.
Unfortunately, this school is just one of many which have fallen victim to vandalism.

Blackpool Art Society Installs Hammerglass to Prevent Vandalism
Posted 7th September 2018 by Helen LeachAfter receiving a grant from the National Lottery Fund, Blackpool Art Society approached Window Security Solutions with a core interest in Hammerglass.
Formed in 1884, the Blackpool Art Society is one of the oldest societies in Britain. Blackpool Art Society has its own studio, which was purpose-built in 1972 for its members to use and create different forms of art as well as hosting workshops, demonstrations and talks.
In 2017, Blackpool Art Society was victim to repeated acts of vandalism with incidents occurring just weeks apart. The extent of the vandalism resulted in broken windows which cost £500 each time they had to be replaced.
School Holidays: Prime Target for Vandalism

This makes them prime targets for vandals and trouble-makers.
In the past summer holidays alone, many schools have fallen victim to vandalism.
From smashed windows to broken or stolen equipment, many schools are now finding themselves having to raise funds to fix and replace damaged or stolen items to ensure their school can re-open in time for the new school year.
